Sitting itself out there unbeknownst to many to what actually it is, often been used to regard as jadeite jade is the maw sit-sit. Excellent colour to start of with that often led others believe it is the very well known semi-precious stone, jadeite jade.
Maw Sit-Sit
Contrary to popular belief, Maw Sit-sit is not a mineral unlike jadeite jade, it is a stone that consists of different materials such as a chromium called kosmochlor. Kosmochlor is what gives the Maw Sit-sit its bright and intense green with black patches around it. In the Maw sit-sit defense, they also contain traces of jadeite jade inside of them. Yet, they are not classify as jadeite jade.
Maw Sit-sit is also found in Burma, alongside the same place with Burmese Imperial Green Jadeite jade which gives people the impression that they are of the same material.As such, many unethical sellers treats them as jadeite jade and sell off as one. Maw sit-sit is of course much more affordable than jadeite jade. It is also because it is a material that is not known to many, many posed this stone as a counterfeit to jadeite jade.
Maw Sit-sit has a mohs scale of 6-6.5 while jadeite has a mohs scale of 6.5-7. However the specific gravity of this stone is 2.45 to 3.15 while jadeite has a specific gravity of 3.24-3.43.
Nonetheless, Maw Sit-sit can be considered as a relative to jadeite jade. But its value is far off different than the mighty jadeite.
