Dragon and Phoenix are the auspicious animals that often represents the emperor and empress as they are the leader of all the winged creatures. They are often comes in pair in a lot of carvings to symbolise great auspiciousness and marital bliss. This particular barrel has both the carvings of the dragon and phoenix side by side with a gourd or the Hulu carving in the centre of the piece. The Hulu which sounds close to "fulu" also symbolises family prosperity and happiness. The hulu is also an icon of good health, longevity, and to able to ward off any negative energy. This particular barrel has three of these carvings onto it.
The texture of this barrel is fine and has a good transparency under light. Crystal-like formation in the texture is minimal and no significant big cotton. No veins and unwanted cracks can be found on the barrel.
